James Allen “Jim” Hoffman, 86, of Wilsonville, formerly of Vandalia, died Monday, July 12, 2021, at 2:22 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Martin of Litchfield Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be held in McInturff Cemetery in Vandalia.

Mr. Hoffman was born July 6, 1935, in Smithboro, a son of Vernon and Florence (Koonce) Hoffman. He married Shirley Jean Crane on April 14, 1956, and she preceded him in death in 1983. He later married the former Wilma Ruth (Beck) Chapman on Jan. 1, 1985, in Coffeen, and she survives.

A 1953 graduate of Mulberry Grove High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He worked in the tool crib at Crane Packing in Vandalia. He was always very active in church, and enjoyed being a song leader and Sunday school superintendent at previously attended churches. He was a member of the Litchfield Assembly of God. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Wilma.

In addition to his wife, Wilma, he is survived by four daughters, Sheila (Jeff) Tippen, Leila (John) Miller and Karen (Scott) Washburn, all of Vandalia, and Melissa (Tim) Hill of Ramsey; one sister, Jeanette Seibert of Greenville; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Jernigan and Mary Woker.

Memorials may be made to the Litchfield Assembly of God.
