Fans of Hillsboro High School football will get their first chance to see Coach Joe Reed’s Toppers take the field on Friday, Aug. 20, for the team’s annual Gatorade scrimmage.
The scrimmage will give the Toppers a chance to run through their pre-game routine, just as they will when they face Greenville in the opening game of the season on Aug. 27, on the Comets’ home turf.
The Hiltoppers will make their way through the tunnel at 6:52 p.m., following the national anthem at 6:40 p.m.
The scrimmage itself will feature work by the varsity kickoff team, return team and punt team to begin, followed by the varsity offense taking on the best of the rest for a quarter (12 minutes).
The varsity offense will then practice the two-minute drill from the 20-yard line, followed by work on the red zone defense, with the scout offense running four plays from the 10-yard line four times.
The freshmen and sophomores take center stage to end the scrimmage, with a game-style eight minute scrimmage first, followed by a clash between the two classes for the final 10 minutes.
Admission to the scrimmage is a sports drink or monetary donation to the football program.
