Posted

Good things came in twos for the Hillsboro boys golf team on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The Toppers picked up two wins in the match with Greenville and North Mac at Indian Springs Golf Course near Fillmore, with two Hillsboro seniors sharing medalist honors. Both Dom Haggard and Drake Vogel shot 41s on the day to lead the Toppers to victory, but the seniors weren’t the only ones to have a good day.

Five of the six Hillsboro players finished in the top five individually, with the sixth, Hayden Titsworth, shooting a 54, which would have put him in the top four for both Greenville and North Mac.

Hillsboro’s other two scoring rounds came from Preston Lyerla and Dillon Smail, who shot 44 and 48 respectively. Tycen Thacker also shot a 48, tying Smail for the fifth best round of the match.

The only opponent to break into the top five was Greenville’s Jack Workman, who shot a 47 for the Comets.

The Toppers will be on the course each of the next three days, with a home date against Rochester on Sept. 9, starting out the stretch. On Sept. 10-11, Hillsboro will be at the Mattoon Country Club for this year’s Mattoon Invitational, with tee times starting at 1 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.
