Hillsboro Volleyball Picks Up Third Win


After taking two losses in their first three games against South Central Conference competition, the Hillsboro High School volleyball team has won two straight to climb above .500 for the first time this season.

The second win in the streak came against Gillespie, with Hillsboro winning in dominant fashion on Thursday, March 25.

Game one would be a rout, with Hillsboro rolling up a 25-5 win. Whether the Miners woke up or Hillsboro took their foot off the gas, game two would be much closer, with the Toppers hanging on for a 25-23 victory.

Kaci Papin had a big night on the serving line and on the attack for Hillsboro as she led the team with 15 points, one ace and seven kills. Jordan Jacobs would add in six points, while Ally Devore and Reagan DeVaisher contribute four points each.

Senior Haley Major backed Papin on the attack with five kills, while Reagan DeVaisher added three kills and four assists. Layne Rupert (two kills), Alayna McCario (one kill) and Olivia Hefley (one kill) also contributed at the net, with Jacobs leading the team in assists with ten on the night.

On defense, Devore posted a team-high seven digs, followed by Rupert with five, Jacobs and DeVaisher with three each and Major with one.

Hillsboro is now 3-2 on the season, with all five games coming against South Central Conference competition.Another SCC foe waits in the wings as Southwestern will visit Hillsboro on Monday, March 29, followed by four days off for the Toppers before a clash with Lincolnwood at the Woodshed in Raymond on Saturday, March 27.
