The Hillsboro girls golf team picked up a victory over Vandalia on Friday, Sept. 3, at the Hillsboro Country Club as they finished third in a quad match at their home course.
The Toppers shot a 228 as a team and were closer to second, Taylorville with a 211, than fourth, Vandalia with a 264. Auburn would take the top spot, shooting a 195 behind medalist Shelby Seiler’s 42.
Meagan Jorn was right behind Seiler for the top spot, though, as the Toppers’ ace shot a 43. Consistently Hillsboro’s low shooter, Jorn, had the only birdie of the day, a three on the par-4 first hole.
“She continues to get better and keeps improving on her short game. She has been chipping and putting very well,” Coach Son Clayton said of Jorn. “If Meagan can get rid of one or two rough holes, I believe she will have lots of rounds in the mid to lower 40s and have her best season yet.”
Jorn isn’t the only Topper to raise her game. After shooting in the 60s and 70s much of last year, Sam Frailey has been in the 50s several times in 2021, including on Friday, where she shot a 56.
Her sister Alex was just a shot behind with a 57, while Aurelie Granito rounded out the Topper quartet with a 72.
Hillsboro will try to score another victory today, Sept. 7, when they play Staunton at Timber Lakes Golf Course.
