Henry W. Peters, Jr., a man who dedicated his life to serving his country, community and family, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at the age of 90, with his family at his side.

Mr. Peters was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving as a radio technician, from 1951 to 1955, in Alaska and northern California. He was also a businessman, running an electric motor repair shop, and eventually retiring from Ameren Electric Company in 1997.

He was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Chicago, to Henry and Gladys Peters. He graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1951 and then went on to join the Coast Guard, where he served with distinction.

After leaving the military, Mr. Peters settled in Palo Alto, CA, where he started a family with his wife, Ellen. The two were married for over 50 years until her passing in 2016.

He was a devoted father to his three children. In 1969, he and his wife moved to Hillsboro. He worked for Ameren Electric Company for many years at the Coffeen Power Station.

Mr. Peters was a talented wood worker who also enjoyed repairing and riding Cushman motor scooters. After retiring to Yarmouth Port, MA, he volunteered for the Yarmouth Police Department and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their visits to Cape Cod, MA.

In addition to his career and many hobbies, he was a devoted husband. He was also a loving brother to his late sister, Barbara Schultz.

Mr. Peters will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering patriotism and commitment to serving his community. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren and all who knew him.

He is survived by his three children, Erin Peters Smith of Collinsville, CT, Christopher A. Peters of Clifton, VA, and William B. Peters of Barnstable, MA; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
