It was far from an ideal weekend for racing for Sorento’s Eldon Hemken as rain cancelled his plans to go to Farmer City Raceway on July 31. Fortunately, the WHO2 driver would get some action in the following night as he ran at Spoon River Speedway in Canton.
Running in the Hornet division, Hemken was fourth in his heat race, but more than made up for it in the feature. Up against 18 other driver’s Hemken would finish sixth overall as he tries to stay atop the DirtCar Sport Compact national point standings.
Before Saturday’s race, Hemken was first overall with 837 points, 18 more than Dave Lauritson.
The week before his fve hour round trip to Spoon River, Hemken raced at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown. Hemken would place third in his heat, then took fourth overall in the feature for the Hornets.
