It was a busy weekend for Sorento racer Eldon Hemken as he competed in three races at three different tracks on Aug. 28-30.
On Aug. 28, Hemken made the trip to Jacksonville, where he finished second overall in the Hornet class, despite some damage to the rear axle of the WHO2. After a quick fix, Hemken’s next race was at Fayette County Speedway. Again he would put in a solid night, finishing fourth overall in the 16-car field.
On Aug. 30, Hemken ran in Tri City Speedway’s Sunday Funday race, with $200 going to the winner of the 4-Cylinder division. Hemken would start seventh in the feature after finishing third in the first of two eight-car heats. In the main event, Hemken would move up a spot, taking sixth overall.
The following week, Hemken was back at it with races at the Tri City Speedway in Granite City on Sept. 4, and at the Charleston Speedway on Sept. 5.
Hemken would run second in his heat in the four-cylinder class at Tri City to earn a spot on the front row. He’d go on to finish third in the feature, despite some mechanical issues that caused some minor trouble.
At Charleston, the WHO2 would run third in the second heat, resulting in a spot on the outside of row three for the feature. Hemken would move up two spots as he finished fourth on the night.
Hemken is still in the top three in the UMP Sport Compact national points race with 1,289 points, not including his results from this past weekend. Dave Lauritson is first with 1,334 points, while Dallas Strauch has 1,304 points as of Monday, Sept. 7
