The Hearn Motorsports family was in Byron on Aug. 8-9 for the Midwest Junior Super Series stop at the Byron Dragway.
Timothy Hearn raced in the 10-to-12 year-old division on Saturday and made it all the way to the semifinals before bowing out, earning some valuable points in the overall standings.
Unfortunately, Hearn wasn’t as lucky on day two of the event as his junior dragster broke on the first pass in the 8.90 class to end his hopes for another strong finish.
While the end result on Saturday wasn’t ideal, the Hearns did get to experience some of what makes racing special beyond the track.
“Timothy’s car died as he pulled around onto the track and Michelle (Timothy’s mom) grabbed the starter in a flash, but the battery happened to be too low to crank it again,” Timothy’s father David recounted on Facebook. “Someone came up almost as quickly as she did and handed me another starter and for that we are thankful.”
The next Midwest Junior Super Series is scheduled for Aug. 28-30, at Crossroads Dragway in Terre Haute, IN, although the Hearns will most likely be racing well before then closer to home.
