Have A Hometown Holiday In Litchfield This Saturday

Holiday festivities will kick off early in the City of Litchfield on Saturday, Nov. 27, with the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce’s Hometown Holidays event. This year’s Christmas celebration will be held in conjunction with Shop Small Saturday, revamping the city’s former Christmas Walk.

Participating chamber businesses will offer a variety of discounts and deals for shoppers looking to check some items off of their holiday gift lists.  The Litchfield Chamber will hand out 100 gift bags containing info on all of the shopping deals, products and services participating chamber businesses provide at 10 a.m., on the front steps of the Carnegie Building. Some of the bags will contain “Holiday Bucks” in $5, $10 and $25 dollar increments. The gift bags will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, to adults only. There is a limit of one bag per family.

Lily Pad learning center in Litchfield has teamed up with the chamber to provide “Santa’s Sitters,” free child care services in the Carnegie Building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in one-hour time slots. Sign up is required. Registration forms may be accessed online through the Litchfield Chamber Commerce page on Facebook.

The Westside Cinema will offer a free Christmas movie beginning at 10 a.m. at the theater. Little attendees won’t want to miss the chance to visit with Santa, who will be at the Carnegie building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. While there, kids can get a free photo with Santa, make holiday kids crafts and decorate cookies.

Kids of all ages are invited to check out the 22nd annual Litchfield Train Group’s Model Railroad Open House, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Ameriprise Financial Building, located at 510 North State Street. Admission is $1 for elementary school age children and older. Preschool age children and younger are free. More than 5,000 visitors have enjoyed visiting the model train exhibit  since the Litchfield Train Group began holding the open house in conjunction with Litchfield’s holiday events in 1998.

The festivities will culminate with the annual Christmas parade. Registration and line-up will start at 3 p.m. at the Sihler School parking lot, with the parade to begin at 4 p.m.
