Harold L. Benning, 93

Harold Louis Benning, 93, of Raymond, died on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the time of service, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Memorial services will begin at the funeral home with Pastor Jay Martin. Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery in Raymond. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Benning was born on Feb. 16, 1929, to Louis Martin and Emma Iona (Hudson) Benning in Raymond. He married Ruth Hahankamp on March 28, 1954, and together they had four children who gave them 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Raymond High School, he served in the US Army and received the rank of corporal. Mr. Benning was deployed overseas which earned him a Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and a United Nations Service Medal. When his service was complete, he returned home to work on the family farm which he eventually retired from.

Mr. Benning was a past member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and a faithful member of the Living Stones Church in Litchfield.

Mr. Benning is survived by his wife; children, Colleen McAdamis of CO, Constance (Jeff) Brown of Virden, Julie (Jon Robinson) Benning of Taylorville and Michael (Michele) Benning of Raymond. Also surviving are his siblings, Dorothy Sloss of Raymond, Virginia Rinella of Carbondale, Ivan Benning of Harvel and sister-in-law, Fran Benning of Raymond.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, David Benning, Paul Benning, Ralph Benning, Joyce Weihe and Russell Ludwig.
