We needed five. We really wanted eight. We got 24! What a heartwarming show of community spirit and generosity at its best!
When the chairmen of the Montgomery County Bicentennial Committee decided to appeal to the public for help in purchasing bicentennial banners for the Courthouse Square, we had no idea what was coming. My phone started ringing early on the morning the newspaper article first appeared in The Journal-News, and it has not stopped! The outpouring of support was so great that we will soon be placing vertical banners around the Courthouse Square and along Main Street all the way to the School Street intersection.
I am truly grateful for such interest in this project, and I am completely amazed by the generosity of so many. Donations that continue to come in are being used to help fund murals of historic photos that will be placed on brick buildings in downtown Hillsboro.
I extend my sincere thanks to all who have helped make our county seat festive and patriotic as we celebrate the 200th birthday of Montgomery County.
