Glen ‘Buzzy’ Cox, 88

Glen R. “Buzzy” Cox, 88, of Benld, died at 5:22 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at his residence.

The family will hold private services. A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Kravanya Funeral Home in Benld is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Cox was born on July 19, 1933, in Litchfield, to Glen E. Cox and Olga Neumann Luenemann. He married Barbara A. Olds Cox on Nov. 27, 1953, at the Bunker Hill Methodist Church; they were married for 67 years. Mr. Cox was a veteran of the US Navy.

He was a farmer and had worked for Laclede Steel. Mr. Cox was a member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge #217 AF/AM. He was a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Gillespie. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Cox loved being on his farm with all his boys. He gave all his grandchildren special nicknames. His family knew him as loving husband, father and grandfather. He never knew a stranger and talked to everyone he met.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife; children, Cheryl (Marty) Derganc of Benld, Annette (Bart) Baker of Shipman, Joey Cox of Sawyerville, Barbie Cox of Benld, Glenda (Tim) Margaritis of Staunton, Kathleen Cox of Staunton, Michael Cox of Joppa, MD, CaraCox (companion, Tim Bates) of Moro and  Dale (Tina) Cox of Carlinville; daughters-in-law, Brandi Cox of Benld and Khara Cox of Alabama; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Huhsman of Staunton;  and a lot of special friends.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents; daughter in infancy, Sara Beth Cox, twin sons, Brian and Brady Cox; grandchild, Caleb Cox and; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Cox.
