Gladys Jean (Osborn) Burval, 96, of Des Plaines, died on Monday, Nov. 18, at Montgomery Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.
A prayer service will be held graveside at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines on Monday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m. Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. Burval was born on Jan. 16, 1928, to Patrick and Stell (Durbin) Osborn of Irving. She married Frank Burval on March 26, 1947, and they made their home in Des Plaines for 42 years before he preceded her in death in 1989. She was raised in Irving and graduated from Irving High School, before she went to Des Plaines with her sister, Julia to work and stay with an aunt and uncle. She worked as a waitress at a small restaurant in Park Ridge, where she would meet her future husband.
She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, homemaker and friend. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, gospel music, “I Love Lucy” and comedy shows on TV and laughing.
Mrs. Burval is survived by her daughter, Katherine S. (fiance, Donald R. Webster) Burris; daughter-in-law, Grace Burval; grandchildren, Sarah Anna (Kevin) Hansen, Angelina (John) Stevens and Joseph Burval; great-grandchildren, Reanna an Jamesly Stevens; sister-in-law, Paulette Osborn; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, the Rev. Carl L. Burval; and siblings, Mamie (Opal) Niehaus, Minnie (Lee) Voils, Herbert Osborn, Julia (Chester) Wolff, June (John) Hudak, Mary (George) Bland, Virginia (Paul) Boyd and James Patrick Osborn.
