Gertrude F. (Fitzgerald) Fry, 88, of Sorento, died on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec. 8, at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment followed at Kirkland Cemetery in Sorento.
Mrs. Fry was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Flora, the daughter of Addie and Bessie Mae (Allwood) Fitzgerald. She married Thomas Charles Fry on May 29, 1954, in Olney, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
She was raised in Clay City, attended the local schools and graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1954.
Mrs. Fry worked at Watson’s Drug Store in Olney before she got married and moved to Granite City. She and her husband started their family in Granite City, but moved to Sorento in the 1970s.
She worked for Hampton’s Nursing Home for 37 years. She and her husband were members of the Sorento Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fry is survived by two sons, Harold (Melinda) Fry of Buffalo, ND, and Michael (Reta) Fry of Breckenridge, MO; daughter, Rosa (Melvin) Mollett of Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Vickie Fry of Granite City; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brother, Emery Lee (Mary Ellen) Fitzgerald of Greenville; and sister, Ruth Ann Webb of Olney.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Jeffery J. Fry and Robert Lee Fry; siblings, Irma Webb, Velda Mae Kimmerle and Billy Webb; grandson, Harvey Fry; and great-grandson, Leon Fry.
