George Stephenson, 72

George Michael “Mike” Stephenson, 72, of Litchfield, died on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at Hillsboro Rehab after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Hough Funeral Home in Raymond. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Raymond. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield. Hough Funeral Home in Raymond is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Stephenson was born on Sept. 7, 1949, in Litchfield, to Homer C. and Pauline Joan Pass Stephenson. He graduated from Litchfield High School and from Rankin Tech before he joined the Marines where he served in Vietnam. After returning from active duty, he married Barbara Broaddus on June 12, 1976, in Raymond, which later ended in divorce.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, VFW and Moose Lodge all in Litchfield.

Mr. Stephenson is survived by his children, Amy M. (husband, Shawn) Bethard of Morrisonville, Katie M. Stephenson of Springfield and Michael W. (wife, Kristin) Stephenson of Farmersville; grandchildren, Carter, Cooper, Camden Bethard and Grayson Wood; siblings, Paul (wife, Evie) Stephenson of Hoyleton and Helen Schuetze of Carlinville; and several nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Theresa J. Murphy, Larry, Bill, Charles and John Stephenson.
