George J. Cerutti, 80, of Irving, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at 10:12 p.m. at his residence.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 12:30 p.m. in Bost Hill Cemetery in Fillmore with Father Daniel Willenborg, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Military rites will be accorded. Friends may meet at noon at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro to proceed to the cemetery. COVID-19 CDC guidelines will be followed with the use of masks and social distancing.

Mr. Cerutti was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Litchfield, to the late Joseph M. and Rose (Fenoglio) Cerutti. He married Diane Karnes on Dec. 18, 1965, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, and she survives.

A 1958 graduate of Gillespie High School, he was in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was a coal miner at Little Dog Coal Mine in Gillespie and Consol Coal Mine in Coffeen. He was a federal mine inspector, a Prudential sales agent, and the owner/operator of DX Station, the co-owner of Woody’s Tavern, and Cerutti’s Baseball Card Shop, all in Hillsboro. During his lifetime, he lived in Gillespie, Hillsboro and Irving.

He was a member of many organizations, including the Knights of Columbus in Gillespie and Hillsboro, the Hillsboro Jaycees, the Witt and Hillsboro Lions Clubs, Hillsboro School Board, where he also served as president, Moose Lodge #1377, and on the Ducks Unlimited committee for over 30 years.

Mr. Cerutti is survived by his children, Mike (wife Judy) Cerutti and Jill Cerutti, all of Coffeen; seven grandchildren, Reid (wife Christina) Cerutti, Luke Cerutti, Jacob Cerutti, Ashley (husband Craig) Steed, Ciara Hrabusicky (significant other Drake Ondrey), Jaci Hrabusicky and Samantha (husband Corey) Franzen; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Luketich Cerutti of Gillespie.
