George A. Ruppe, 85

George Allen Ruppe, 85, of Vandalia, died on Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, at his residence.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Church of God in Vandalia. A Celebration of Life will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Zach Schaeffer and Pastor Don Hudelson co-officiating. A private burial will be held at Farmers Cemetery in Shobonier at a later date. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mr. Ruppe was born April 16, 1936, in Coffeen, to Walter and Cordia Gertrude (Elam) Ruppe. He married Barbara Alender, and she preceded him in death. He later married Cora, and she survives.

He attended school in Coffeen in his younger years, graduating from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1956.

During his career, Mr. Ruppe worked at Van Tran in Vandalia for 19 years. He also worked at Irwin Seating folding bleachers.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Hilltoppers Coin Club and the First Church of God in Vandalia.

In addition to his wife Cora, Mr. Ruppe is survived by his stepson, Randy Vincent of Vandalia; Cindy Helton and Tiffany Gottman, both of Vandalia, who Mr. Ruppe and his wife raised as daughters; and grandchildren, Lexi, Tabby, Brayden and Sadie Vincent, all of Vandalia.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Ila Butler and Imogene Hudelson.
