Freddie ‘Fred’ E. Roach, 72

Freddie “Fred” Eugene Roach, 72, of Hillsboro, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 7:44 p.m. in Hillsboro.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Waggoner Centennial Building. A Celebration of Life will follow, beginning at 4 p.m. at the centennial building. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Roach was born Oct. 24, 1949, in Carlinville, to Fred A. Roach and the former Dorothy L. Welge. He married Christie Rae Budd on April 29, 1972, in Hillsboro, and she survives.

He attended school in Raymond and briefly attended college. He served in the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam with the 11th Armored Calvary Division.

During his career, Mr. Roach worked as a coal miner at CONSOL in Coffeen and was a member of the UMWA.

He was a commander of the American Legion Everett C. Burton Post #701 in Waggoner, secretary of the Veteran’s Assistance Commissions (VAC) of Montgomery County and member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #51 in Hillsboro.

Mr. Roach attended several Rolling Thunder rallies. He was a big Cubs fan and loved portraying Santa Claus in the area. He also enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and playing with his great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Darren (Linda) Street of Hillsboro; daughter, Melanie Tyszko of Hillsboro; two brothers, Scott (Lynda) Roach of Orange City, FL, and Jamie (Angie) Roach of Ocala, FL; sister, Amy (Rich) Reincke of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Zoe (Keegan Lohman) Tyszko, Elijah Tyszko, Finn Tyszko and Blake Street; three great-grandchildren, Arlo, Wilder and Jax Lohman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sheila McIntyre.
