Festivities Continue At Montgomery County Fair

The Montgomery County Fair continues through Sunday, June 27, at the county fairgrounds in Butler. Gate admission set at $7 per person and includes free parking and carnival rides. However, additional admission fees are required for some of the  grandstand events.

Fountain City Amusements is providing free rides from 6 p.m. to close  Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Make sure to bring the kids to the carnival matinee on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m., Rides will also be open again from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. 

Fair goers are invited to check out the exhibits on display at the Arts and Crafts building from 5 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, June 24, and Friday, June 25. The exhibits may also be viewed from noon to 9 p.m., on Saturday, June 26, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 27.

Thursday morning’s event line up begins with the Beef Show at 9 a.m. at the 4H Park. Area singers will get a chance to showcase their talent on Thursday night during the annual karaoke contest, starting at 7 p.m. in the Expo Building. Entrance to the friendly competition is included with gate admission. Category brackets are open to kids ages five to 14 years old, teens ages 15 to 19 years old and adults ages 20 and up. Sign-up and song selection will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and is limited to the first 30 entries. Entry fees are set at $10 and prizes for first ($100), second ($50) and third place ($25) will be awarded for each age group. 

The Swine Show begins at 9 a.m. on Friday morning, June 25, at the 4-H Park. Motocross Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $5 and pit passes are set at $10. Question concerning registration may be directed to Adam Wright at 217-553-6271. Make sure to stop and say hello to DJ Tara Baker, who will be at the fair grounds entertaining attendees on Friday.

Kids’ Day activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, at the open pavilion. The Power Wheels Demo, for children up to eight years old, will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the Car Demolition Derby at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Pit passes are $20 per person.  Registration questions may be directed to Ken Reese at 217-710-0506. Local favorite Hunter Sharp will perform live as part of Saturday’s entertainments.

While the County Fair will be winding down for the year, there is plenty of fun to be had on Sunday, June 27. The tractor pulls will begin at noon, with the truck pulls to follow at approximately 3 p.m., dependent on the length of tractor pulls. Grandstand admission is $5 and pit passes are $15. In addition to scheduled events, the Montgomery County Fair will also feature live music, a free petting zoo, arts and crafts exhibits, a beer pavilion and a variety of food each day. Alcohol, guns and pets will not be permitted on the fairgrounds.
