Evelyn N. German, 89, of Litchfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022 at 2:25 p.m. at her residence. 

Cremation rites were accorded.  Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro at a later date.  Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. German was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Hillsboro to the late Martin and Magdalene (Ondrey) Hayes.  She was a 1951 graduate of Hillsboro High School and was retired from the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health after many years.  She married John Kreski, on June 27, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1959.  She then married Ernest Wilbur “Web” German, on May 2, 1970, in Hillsboro, and he also preceded her in death in 1993.

Mrs. German was a member of Royal Neighbors and she was of the Catholic faith.  She was an avid reader, loved movies and would buy houses to remodel and flip them.  She had lived in Hillsboro, Gillespie, Alton, and Merritt Island, FL, before moving back to Hillsboro  in 1993. 

She is survived by a granddaughter, Aimee (husband Mike) Williams of Bethalto; a half sister, Laura (husband Mike) Puckett of Hillsboro; and a step sister, Diane Cerutti of Hillsboro; nieces, Emily (husband Chad) Zimmerman of Hillsboro, Sarah (husband Ian) Puckett-Starkweather of Chatham, and Rachel (husband Ryan) Kirby of Hillsboro. 

Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded by her step mother, Pearl Hayes; step father; Hilary Stauder; daughter, Karen Gowin, who preceded on Oct. 14, 2022; step daughter, Linda Erickson; siblings, Julia Ann Stauder in infancy, Kay Fraelle, and Peggy Whitehouse; and a step brother, Ralph Karnes.
