Eldon C. Heaton, 77, died on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at 12:01 p.m. at River Crossing of Alton.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation rites were accorded and interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Marks Mortuary in Wood River assisted the family.
Mr. Heaton was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Springfield, MO, to Louis and May Belle (Goodnight) Heaton. He married Donna Clark Smith on Feb. 7, 2004, in Bethalto, and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force, retiring as lieutenant colonel. He was then employed as a safety specialist for the National Geospatial Agency before retiring.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Heaton is survived by his son, Paul (Tamara) Heaton of Kirksville, MO; stepson, Brian (Michelle) Smith of Witt; stepdaughter, Jaime (Jonathan) Peterson of Alton; two grandchildren, A.J. Heaton and Bradley Heaton; and stepgrandchild, HaDassah Peterson.
