Dr. Billiter Donates To Foundation

Retired longtime physician Dr. Ross Billiter of Litchfield recently made a $20,000 contribution to the Litchfield Student Education Foundation to purchase classroom materials for students in grades kindergarten through 12th.

The Litchfield Student Education Foundation was incorporated in 1989 for the purpose of providing additional and enriched educational opportunities for students in the Litchfield School District. Its goal is to provide financial support for important educational activities not currently provided through the school system. Dr. Billiter’s donation will fulfill a variety of teacher wish list items.

At the elementary level, his donation will provide for DASH robots to help teach coding, R-bite start-up kits to help students stabilize their jaws for working on saying the letter “r” correctly, second grade books and materials including units on Christmases around the world, fairy tales and land forms, paper cutter to help teachers with student curriculum and projects, electric pencil sharpener and family engagement packs for literacy and math.

At the middle school level, his donation will provide 270 books (three different novels) for reading classes, math manipulatives to support hands-on learning and microscopes and robots.

Donations at the elementary and middle school level total around $5,000 each. The remaining $10,000 donation was used to fund high school wish list items.

Among the high school items are Spanish novels, RealityWorks swine litter processing simulators and supply packs, Density cube sets, a weight training sled, Wards’ science books, polar verity sense (heart rate monitors), dodgeballs, two standing desks with kickbar, iPad to use with a Promethean board, a variety of novels for English and social studies, life skills math lessons, vocation unit curriculum for life skills,  double-sided bookshelf on wheels, display case for student art, shelving units, a collaboration table for art, group-inclusive tables with chairs and floor cushions and a mobile notation whiteboard for music.

Members of the Litchfield Student Education Foundation include President Katie Savage, Vice President Leslie Farrar, Treasurer Julie Abel, Secretary Jerry Cruthis, Jimmy Gorowski, Jake Fleming, Superintendent Dr. Greggory Fuerstenau, Beth Cherry and Mike Delaney.
