On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Nokomis Memorial Pool project received a big boost from a fixture of the Nokomis business community. Five days later, they got even more good news.
State Farm Insurance agent Tim Huber, along with his wife Liz, donated $1,000 to the project, which will go toward the Nokomis Park District’s share of the project.
In January 2020, the park district received a $350,000 matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and has been raising the other portion of the funds since that time.
The project will completely renovate the pool, which was losing six to eight inches of water a day during the 2019 season due to several leaks.
In addition to fixing the leak issue, the new pool will also have several new features, including a slide with a plunge area, a splash pad and a zero-entry area that makes the pool more accesible.
The other big news of the week is that an anonymous couple has pledged to match donations to the project for the remainder of 2020 up to $10,000.
“The couple wish to remain anonymous but thought this would be a great way to raise even more than just their donation,” said Ros O’Malley, who has been assisting in some of the fundraising efforts.
For those who would like to donate to the project, donations can be mailed to the Nokomis Memorial Park Pool, P.O. Box 153, Nokomis, IL, 62075.
