Donald Lee Koonce, 84, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 9:08 a.m. at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rudy Elam and Wayne Fenton, deacon of Walshville Baptist Church, co-officiating. Burial will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Koonce was born on Nov. 24, 1936, in Litchfield, to William Allen and Alice Lorraine (DeWitt) Koonce. He married Nancy Lee (Hemken) Jarman on June 4, 1965, in Litchfield, and she survives.

He attended Litchfield schools, and served in the U.S. Army during peacetime and was stationed in Germany.

Mr. Koonce was employed at Allis-Chalmers/Fiat-Allis in Springfield for several years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, bowling, shooting pool and gardening. His favorite thing to do was dancing, and he also enjoyed playing music.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Koonce is survived by three sons, Wade (Jaime) Koonce of Litchfield, Tim Jarman of Mitchell and Mark (Chris) Jarman of Hillsboro; three daughters, Amy (Brian) Olson of Port Charlotte, FL, Kathy (Randy) Boden of Litchfield and Tammy (Mike) Robb of Standard City; ten grandchildren, Adrienne Koonce, Kristen (Justin) Plasters, Christopher Olson, Randy (fiancee Katie McKinney) Boden Jr., Chelsey Boden, Dylan Boden, Timothy Jarman, Samantha Jarman, Kayla (Terry) Wyhs, John (Kelsey) Robb; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Joan (Ross) Koonce; son, Bud “Alpo” Jarman; sister, Delores “Dodie” Biscan; and granddaughter, Niki Hogue.

Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association or the Litchfield Veterans Memorial Garden.
