Donald Lee Garst, 93, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at 3:23 a.m. at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Carlinville.

Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. A private family visitation will be held prior to the service. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Garst was born May 10, 1927, in Girard, to Alvy and Stella (Lutz) Garst. He married Nancy Ann Coss on Aug. 17, 1956, in Girard, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 1996.

He was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard, having served during the Korean War.

During his career, Mr. Garst served as a welder for Allis-Chalmers/Fiat-Allis in Springfield and had also worked for the city of Litchfield as a custodian for several years.

He enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Garst is survived by his son, Alvin (Candy) Garst of Eagerville; daughter, Carol (Randy) Kunz of Murrayville; sister, Linda Garbin of Girard; six grandchildren, Amber Roston, Jodi Garst, Eriel Garst, Danielle Garst, Alicia Garst and Emily Odle; 29 great-grandchildren, Steven White, Jarred White, Nathan White, Christa Migut, Chaz Migut, Cheawne Migut, Christian Migut, Breana Trimble, Brandt Odle, Brisa Odle, Brayla Odle, Bristol D’Antonio, Caylee Foley, Jordan Adams, Seth Kenter, Olivia Kenter, Paisley Fricke, Serenity Brown, Kylie Garst, Britney Thorton, Sommer Thorton, Bo Thorton, Lucus Gibson, David Odle, Miles Odle, Alillyhana Henry, Achilles Henry, Ayramis Henry and Abygale Henry; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ricker Odle and Taeden Odle.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert Garst, Clifford Garst and Henry Garst; five sisters, Evelyn Winterbauer, Betty Lomalino, Vera Killem, Dorothy Laswell and Connie Taylor; and one grandson, Jason Odle.

Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association or Litchfield Veteran’s Memorial Garden.
