Don Carter, 82, of Smithboro, died on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at his home.

A graveside service was conducted Monday, Feb. 8, at Green Hill Cemetery in Vanburensburg. Young Funeral Home in Greenville assisted the family.

Mr. Carter was born Jan. 21, 1939, in Hamilton, OH, to Herbert and Charlotte (Yaden) Carter. He married Betty Lou Koonce on March 16, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Mulberry Grove, and she survives.

He grew up in the Mulberry Grove area. During his career, he owned and operated his own business, the Greenville Service Company, and also operated the Shell Gas Station in Hillsboro.

Mr. Carter enjoyed driving his racing cars, flying his ultra-light and working his garden. He loved his family, especially his Betty Lou.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Ricky Carter of Mulberry Grove; daughters, Lisa (David) Wilson and Susan Mosby, both of Mulberry Grove; sister, Lu Alice Willis of Vandalia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, plus two on the way.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles Carter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Green Hill Cemetery in Vanburensburg.
