Don C. Henson, Jr., 75

Don C. Henson Jr., 75 of Manistique, MI, formerly of Hillsboro, died on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Henson and his wife, Jane, will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Manistique, MI, in the spring, with a date and time to be announced later. Fausett Funeral Homes of Manistique, MI, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Henson was born on July 27, 1945, at Henderson Air Force Base in Nevada, the son of the late Don C. and Julie A. (Murdoch) Henson, Sr. He married Martha Jane Pinkstaff in St. Francisville, LA, on June 11, 1967. She preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2020.

After growing up in Hillsboro, Mr. Henson earned his bachelor of arts degree at Southern Illinois University. Mr. Henson and his wife served in the Peace Corps from 1967 to 1969, in Sierra Leone, Africa.

A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Henson was  medically discharged in the early 1970s.

He often laughed that his avocations became his vocations., and was self-employed at Tamarack Studios, as a recognized artist, glass expert  and highly regarded botanist.

The couple moved to Manistique, MI, in the early 1970s, when Mrs. Henson took a teaching job with Manistique Area Schools. He was a member of several art glass collectors’ groups. 

Mr. Henson was also a frequent contributor to the American Journal of Botany, with many articles published, and was a member of the Michigan Botanical Club.

Mr. Henson is survived by two sisters, Sue Anne (Dave) Fones of Seymour and C. Jane (Paul) Pinkstaff of Livonia, MI.
