Dennis John DeWerff, 65, of Normal, died at 3:51 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, at Carmody Flynn Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Funeral Mass will follow at the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Nokomis.
Mr. DeWerff was born in Nokomis to James and Elizabeth (Durbin) DeWerff. He married Vicki Ellis on June 21, 1986, and she survives. He worked for the Cummins Engine Co. for 43 years, retiring in 2021 as the branch manager. He loved spending time with his family, wife, daughters and grandchildren. His family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, golfing, gardening and cooking.
In addition to his spouse, he is survived by his daughters, Samantha (Dave Krause) DeWerff and Jessica (M. Alex) Helton; grandchildren, Anna and Josie Krause and Penelope and Violet Helton; mother, Elizabeth DeWerff; siblings, Kevin (Kathy) DeWerff, Nancy (Rick) Roberts, Kathryn Finley, Timothy (Shell) DeWerff and Chrissy (Brad Whalen) DeWerff; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Mr. DeWerff was preceded in death by his father, James DeWerff; brother, Stephen DeWerff; nephew, Zach DeWerff; and brother-in-law, Ed Finley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Northwestern Medicine where funds can be allocated to brain tumors.
