Delmer Leon Jarman, 87, of Jacksonville, died on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, surrounded by his family.

The family will hold a private funeral service at a later date. Burial will be at the Diamond Grove Cemetery Columbarium in Jacksonville. The Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family with the arrangements. 

Mr. Jarman was born on July 21, 1934, in Sorento, to John Orville Jarman and Lucille (Caulk) Jarman. He married Carol Bekemeyer on Feb. 12,1955. Mr. Jarman attended school in Sorento and graduated from Staunton High School. He continued his education at Eastern Illinois University.

Mr. Jarman spent most of his career in the insurance business, first with Allstate Insurance and later with his own agency, Del Jarman Insurance. He also was in the real estate business with Redbird Realty. Mr. Jarman was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, and when his children were younger, with Salem Lutheran School. He devoted much time to volunteering with community service organizations and activities including the Rotary Club, Wells Center, Prairieland Heritage Museum and Crime Stoppers. He enjoyed staying busy and spent much of his time restoring old tractors and taking care of his rabbits, chickens, goats and ponies.

Mr. Jarman is survived by his wife; daughters, Deb (Bob) Reeves of Jacksonville and Dawn (Jeff) Matthias of Chicago; sons, Doug (Cheryl) Jarman of Litchfield and Dennis (Elaine) Jarman of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Delta Sabolo and Della Jackson; and one brother, Dan Jarman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Demova Cline; a brother in infancy, Herschel; and a granddaughter in infancy, Nicole Reeves.
