David Lee Sawyer, 90, of Springfield, died on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Staab Funeral Home in Springfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Sawyer was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Staunton, to Roland Emmet and Viola Blance (Richardson) Sawyer.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He went on to work as a financial office manager and architect at Graham, O’Shea and Wisnosky.

Mr. Sawyer enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and playing BINGO. He was a longtime member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Vicki Lee Sawyer of Key West, FL, Charles Wayne (Sue) Sawyer of Springfield and David Lawrence (Diane) Sawyer of Sherman; five grandchildren, Pamela, Patrick, Jennifer (Christ), Jake and Haley (Andrew); three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Tillie and Emma; two brothers, Wayne (Nona) Sawyer of Waukon, IA, and Roland Sawyer of Wheaton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Sawyer was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carl Sawyer; and sister, Lauretta Bruce.
