Darrel Charles Heldebrandt, 85, of Nokomis, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 1:37 p.m. at his home with his loving family by his side.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 7, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Heldebrandt was born Dec. 7, 1936, in South Audubon Township, to Carl H. and Violet Irene (Chastin) Heldebrandt. He married Sonja Ann Peters on Dec. 15, 1957, in Taylorville, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. She survives.

He graduated from Nokomis High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army National Guard for three years before his discharge on Sept. 25, 1961.

Mr. Heldebrandt loved farming and worked for Rosamond Coop Op. He was a member of the Anti-Theft Association (ATA). He was also a 4-H leader and served his community when he was asked or as needed.

He loved being with his large family and friends, and sharing his knowledge of farming, canning, gardening, hunting playing cards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Charlotte (Ricky) Edgecomb of South Carolina, Lee (Gale) Heldebrandt of Witt, Elizabeth (Terry) Roberts of Chouteau, OK, Jane (Morris) Johnson, Amy (Jared) Durbin, both of Nokomis, Cathy Walker of Valdosto, GA, and Charles (Kim) Heldebrandt of Toledo; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Eugene Heldebrandt and Elizabeth Rodden, both of Nokomis.

Mr. Heldebrandt was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Chester Heldebrandt and Roy Heldebrandt.
