Daniel Craig Holmes, 78, of Cleveland, TN, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at Cleveland Tennessee State Veterans Home.
A memorial service was held at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Cleveland, TN, on Sunday, Feb. 23. The family will also have another memorial service that will be held at The Assembly Church in Staunton on Saturday, March 22.
Mr. Holmes born in St. Louis, MO, on May 12, 1946, to John A. Holmes and Elsie M. (Baysinger) Holmes. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1964. He married the love of his life Carol L. (Phillips) Holmes of Staunton on Oct. 9, 1971. They were happily married for 53 years and ended their journey together in Cleveland, TN, where she survives.
After graduation, Mr. Holmes enlisted in the United States Air Force where he serviced planes, then served as a photographer before leaving the service. He attended Lewis and Clark Community College where he made the President’s list and graduated with an electronics degree, then went on to work for the Xerox Corporation in St. Louis, MO.
Mr. Holmes loved woodworking, playing baseball and golf. Later in life, his favorite pastime was exploring the parks and mountains of Tennessee and Georgia with his family.
While a devoted family man, Mr. Holmes loved his Heavenly Father above all else and served faithfully as deacon at Beit B’resheet for a number of years. He studied His Word every day to show himself approved and to disciple others. He was a whole Bible believer and even kept printed verses in his wallet such as 1 John 3:24, “And whoever keeps His commandments remains in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He remains in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.”
Mr. Holmes was a very devoted husband and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Gary Coleman of Red Wing, MN; daughter, Carol (Bill) Kenny of Witt and son, John (Melissa) Holmes of Cleveland, TN; five brothers, David (Pamala) Holmes of Coffeen, Mel (Anita) Holmes of Lake Worth, FL, Matthew Holmes of Livingston, Mark Holmes of Gillespie and sister, Annie Stagner of White City; nine grandchildren, Kurtis (Chun) Huffaker-Tsia of Ft. Worth, TX, Joshua Huffaker of San Antonio, TX, MyKaylee (Kyran Kurtz) Holmes of Cleveland, TN, Shane (Christine) Huffaker of Naperville, Johnathan Holmes of Cleveland, TN, Nova (Jonathan) Hartsook of Staunton, Elizabeth (Jackie) Phillips of Cleveland, TN, Carl Krieger of Benld, Jordan (Tayten) Vancil of Cleveland, TN, Chloee Kenny of Witt, Yasmine Holmes of Cleveland, TN, Daniel Kenny of Witt, Hadassah Holmes of Cleveland, TN, Joseph Holmes of Cleveland, TN; two great-grandchildren, Kobi Kurtz and Elina Phillips of Cleveland, TN; along with generations of nieces, nephews and numerous “adopted” grandsons locally that held a dear place in his and his wife’s life.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his infant son, Jeffrey D. Holmes; father, John A. Holmes; mother, Elsie M. Holmes; and brother, John V. Holmes.
