Dale E. Chaplin, 82, of Donnellson, died on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at 1:15 a.m. at his residence.
Cremation rites were accorded. No services are planned at this time. Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen is assisting the family.
Mr. Chaplin was born July 22, 1940, in Hillsboro, to Henry Lester and Ruth (Seybert) Chaplin. He married Janet Roberts on Sept. 28, 1963, in Fillmore, and she survives.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1958. During his career, he worked as a truck driver and freight hauler for Springfield Decatur Transfer, then for Rudolph Express.
Mr. Chaplin served as deacon at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and Taylor Springs Baptist Church and was a member of Teamsters Union #916 in Springfield. He loved tractor pulls, truck pulls and mowing. He resided in the Hillsboro and Donnellson areas his entire life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Shelley (husband Neal) Blankenship of Donnellson and Travis D. (wife Stacy) Chaplin of Montgomery, TX; grandchildren, Rhett Blankenship of Wisconsin and Savannah Deaton of Montgomery, TX; great-granddaughter, Loraine Andrea; and siblings, Joyce Williams and Ruth Ann Cope, both of Litchfield, Richard Chaplin of Vandalia and Sandra Dilley of Hillsboro.
Mr. Chaplin was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Donald Chaplin and Mary Webb.
