For the second time this season, Springfield Lutheran handed the Lincolnwood High School volleyball team a loss, this time by a narrow 25-22, 25-22 margin.
The two MSM Conference rivals had played in the gold bracket semifinal five days earlier in New Berlin, with the Crusaders winning in convincing fashion, 25-23, 25-8.
In their latest match-up on Sept. 23, in Springfield, the Lancers kept it closer and nearly upset the Crusaders, who improved to 15-1 with the win.
Lutheran had no answer for Hailee Belsher, who led the team with 13 kills, three blocks and six service points. Belsher was also second in digs on the night, finishing with 11, one behind Jasmine Vickery.
Lincolnwood also got three kills from Desi Pitchford and two each from Tessa Funderburk and Jazmin Seaton-Hobson. Haelee Damm (five points and two aces) and Pitchford (four points and an ace) contributed in the serving game, while Damm, Funderburk and Sidney Glick all contributed blocks. Glick (eight digs) and Avery Pope (six digs) also aided the Lancers’ defensive effort, but were unable to hand the MSM power their second loss.
More rivals await Lincolnwood to start the week as they play at Litchfield in a Dig for a Cure game benefitting the Montgomery County Breast Cancer Support Group on Monday, Sept. 27, followed by a road trip to Nokomis on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
