Cole Ryan Eichelberger, 19, of Litchfield, died at 12:56 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Memorials may be designated to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (parentprojectmd.org) or the Monticello Railway Museum (mrym.org).

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until time of service, at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Plummer Funeral Home, with Rev. Jon Magnuson of Beacon Church of Litchfield officiating. Plummer Funeral home of Litchfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Eichelberger was born on July 10, 2001, in Springfield, a son of Christopher J. and Kimberly L. (Hollaway) Eichelberger.  He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 2020. Mr. Eichelberger fought a courageous battle with Duchenne muscular dystrophy during his short life. He was an amazing older brother with an infectious smile. Mr. Eichelberger was a huge rail fan and loved all things trains. He also loved any and all things football, especially the San Francisco 49ers. He was able to give to others by being an organ, eye, and tissue donor through The Gift of Hope.

Mr. Eichelberger is survived by his parents; one brother, Chase Eichelberger of Litchfield; grandparents, Judy (Jerry) Hauskins of Greenville and Sandie Schoen of Staunton; aunts and uncles, Kevin Eichelberger of Litchfield, Stuart (Kim) Finley of Morton, Chad Eichelberger of Litchfield, Brett Pezold of Staunton and Mollee (Ali) Sultani of Prairie Village, KS; and cousins, Kevin (Karisa) Eichelberger, Jr., Kyle (Sydney) Eichelberger both of Litchfield, Amber Finley of Peoria and Heather (Ricardo) Lee of Las Vegas, NV.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Eichelberger and great-grandparents, Everett and Lorene Schoen.
