Clifford Wayne Evans, 89, of Taylor Springs, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Mr. Evans was born May 31, 1933, in rural LaGrange Township, Bond County, to Cecil Irving and Myrtle Elizabeth (Friend) Evans. He married Lois Jean Hantla on Jan. 7, 1956, at Pleasant Hill Christian Church near Raymond, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2017.

During his career, he had worked for Schmidt as the service manager, was a U.S. Mail hauler, and managed the Standard Station in Carlinville. He, along with his wife owned and operated Evans Concrete Products in Schram City for a number of years before retiring.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Greenville congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed crappie fishing in Toledo Bend, TX, and salmon fishing in Sturgeon Bay, WI. He also enjoyed spending time playing baseball with his family and tinkering with projects around the house.

He is survived by his children, Denny (Sharon) Evans of Hillsboro, Brians Evans of Spring Town, TX, Michael (Jamie Campbell) Evans of Irving, Curt (wife Diana) Evans of Litchfield, Dawn (John) Salamone of Raleigh, NC, and Brenda (Dan Hough) Evans of Raymond; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geraldine Painter; and brothers, Clarence “Bud” Evans and Alan Evans.
