Charles L. Appelman, 82

Charles L. Appelman, 82, of Litchfield, formerly of Normal, died on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 5:28 p.m. at his residence.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, 410 S. State St. Mass of Christian Burial will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Dan Willenborg officiating. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Mr. Appelman was born April 10, 1940, in Hawkeye, IA, to Lewis and Agnes (Winter) Appelman. 

He graduated from Hawkeye High School with the class of 1957 and went on to obtain his bachelors of art degree in library and information science from Iowa State Teachers College.

During his career, Mr. Appelman served as director of the Informational Media Center (IMC) for the Unit 5 School District in Bloomington.

He was an avid reader. There probably wasn’t a book he didn’t read. He also collected coins, die cast cars, Coca-Cola collectibles from bears to music boxes, and enjoyed sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. He also liked food and fishing.

Mr. Appelman is survived by his sons, Ron Cooper of Normal and Tony (Kim Stewart) Pellhum of Litchfield; grandchildren, Laura Cooper, Kathleen Cooper, Taylor Ward, Kaylee Pellhum, Karlie (Adam) Moore and Coltan Wicker; six great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Becky) Appelman; sister, Dorothy (Nick) Steinlage; and sister-in-law, Judy Appelman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Daryl Appelman.
