Charles Brookshire, 81, of Springfield, died on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield due to complications of pneumonia.
Funeral services were conducted by Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Following the services, burial was held at Witt Cemetery.
Mr. Brookshire was born Oct. 25, 1940, to Robert and Laura (Finn) Brookshire. He served in the Illinois Air National Guard and later retired from the State of Illinois, Bureau of Collections, in 1998. He loved watching old movies, listening to gospel and country music, as well as online messages from Chancellor Baptist Church, and when health permitted, travelling.
He is survived by one sister, LaDonna (James) Smith of Fredericksburg, VA; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and Doug Bearup, who provided many years of friendship and wonderful caregiving.
Mr. Brookshire was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Dorothy (Elmer) Miller, Doris (Richard) Miller, Betty (Harold) Mindrup, Elsie Dangbar and a sister who died in infancy; and two brothers, Harold and Robert Jr. (Meta Rose).
