Charles A. Burris, 81, of Highland, died on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. Memorial services will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date. Meridith Funeral Home in Highland is assisting the family.
Mr. Burris was born on Aug. 20, 1943, in Hardin, to Charles E. and Theresa (nee Gress) Burris. He married Maureen McGee on Oct. 16, 1965 in Panama, and she survives. He served in the Army after high school in 1961 for three and a half years in Germany. He worked at American Steel in Granite City, then became an auto worker at Chrysler until retirement in 2004.
He enjoyed playing pinochle and canasta, and hunting and fishing were some of his other hobbies, as well as watching football and baseball. He was a student of the weather and liked listening to gospel music.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Mr. Burris is survived by his sons, Daniel and Edward Burris; daughter-in-law, Donna Burris; sisters, Barbara Lucykow and Doris Zumwalt; sisters-in-law, Shiela, Kathryn and Barbara Burris; granddaughter, Alicia (Fiancé Mike) Burris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald, Larry and Wayne Burris; half-brother, James Wilson; sister, Mary Lou Blackwell; and brother-in-law, Howard Zumwalt.
Memorial donations may be made to the Faith Baptist Church.
