Cathy Ann Patton, 72, of Nokomis, died peacefully at 10:36 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis, with a prayer service immediately following. A private burial will be held at Camp Butler at a later date.

Mrs. Patton was born on April 14, 1952, in Victorville, CA, the daughter of the late Clifford and Juanita (Durbin) Johnson. She married Randy G. Patton on Aug. 12, 1976, in Hillsboro, and they resided in Nokomis in their home in the woods.

She worked as a registered nurse at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, retiring after 38 years. She built a remarkable legacy as a dedicated, compassionate and skillful nurse. Her deep empathy, along with her vast knowledge, made her a trusted and respected figure among colleagues, patients and their families. Her contributions to the healthcare community were immeasurable.

Not only was Mrs. Patton an incredible nurse, but she was also the best mother and Mema or Memaw, or whatever way she decided to spell it when it was time to sign the card. If one was a friend to any of the Patton kids, there is a good chance they consider her as a surrogate mother. She treated any child who happened into her home as one of her own and loved to lend an ear for a late-night chat.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Kelly) Patton, Trevor Patton, Tara (Michael) Kessler and Briana Patton; grandchildren, Brady Patton, Sophia, Eve, Stella and Theo Kessler, Carson and Rose Patton and Daelon Patton; brother, Thomas (Pam) Johnson of Harrisburg, MO; sister, Donna Phillips of Temple TX; many dearly cherished siblings in love; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and cousins galore.

Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
