Cathy Ann (Mansholt) Matthews, 68, of Hillsboro, died on Friday, March 7, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 12 p.m. A visitation will start at 11 a.m. prior to the service. The Rev. Gary Stanford will be officiating.
Mrs. Matthews was born on June 5, 1956, in Litchfield, the daughter of Charles Henry Jr. and Shirley Ann (Kinder) Mansholt. She graduated from Hillsboro High School class of 1974 and went straight into working for Echlin as a master cylinder inspector, having spent around 30-plus years with the company. Mrs. Matthews then went on to work at Hillsboro High School in the cafeteria.
She married Rick Matthews on Aug. 2, 1980, and he survives her.
Mrs. Matthews had a passion for several activities such as camping, yard-saleing, horseback riding and traveling. Her and her friends Marsha, Terri and Amy enjoyed going to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, not just to watch the game however, but to people watch as well. Mrs. Matthews was known to enjoy her Diet Coke and Cheetos and she savored those treats even more when she had them while she would watch her grandchildren play sports and other activities.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by her husband, Rick; her daughters, Casey Ann Matthews of Taylor Springs and Nikki (Harley) Williams of O’Fallon; stepson, David (Angela) Walker of O’Fallon; grandchildren, Sawyer Hindle, River Williams and Ashlynn, Henry and Charlotte Walker; and siblings, Cindy, Becky, Larry and Randy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Shirley.
