Catherine L. ‘Katie’ Peat, 96, of Palmer, died at 4:31 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Taylorville Hospital.

The visitation and funeral ceremony were held on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. Interment followed at Morrisonville Cemetery. The Rev. George Elder officiated.

Mrs. Peat was born March 6, 1925 in Taylorville, the daughter of Guy and Mamie (Decker) Irwin. She married Benjamin J. Peat, Jr. on September 24, 1948. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Peat graduated from Taylorville High School in 1943 and worked for a short time at Montgomery Ward’s in Taylorville, then for Harry Dillabaugh’s Jewelry Store in Morrisonville. She worked with her husband on the farm and raised their family.

Mrs. Peat was a dedicated member of the Palmer Advent Christian Church, where she was a past president of the Women’s Home and Foreign Missions. She took great pride in the annual Palmer Picnic through the Palmer Community Club. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star in Morrisonville, American Legion Auxiliary, and served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Peat is survived by her son, David (wife Nancy) Peat of Paw Paw; daughters Linda (husband Mike) Sheedy of Morrisonville, and Janet (husband Jim) Lane of Dade City, FL; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Stephen Peat; daughter, Carol Ann Peat; sisters, Hazel (husand Joe) Sincavage, and Ruby (husband Bill) Lawyer; and brother Ernest (wife Lucille) Irwin.
