Carol Thacker-Varner, 93, died at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Litchfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be held at Litchfield Family Funeral, located at 700 S. State St., on Friday, April 25, with visitation from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Dennis Hill. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mrs. Varner was born to Philip and Laura Bettendorf on June 14, 1931, in Shipman. She graduated from Gillespie High School in 1949. She married Pat Thacker on July 1, 1950, and they were blessed with six children. He preceded her in death. She later married Mel Varner who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Varner was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, aunt, caregiver and friend. Her devotion to God and her church were beyond compare. She was a loyal member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church for 72 years. Mrs. Varner was also a long-time member of The Women of the Moose and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, which she took much pride in. Mrs. Varner worked at HSHS St. Francis Hospital for ten years and then had her own cleaning business until retirement.
Mrs. Varner is survived by one son, Kevin Thacker; three daughters, Phyllis (Jeff) Helfrich, Brenda (Larry) Jones and Ann (David) Morgan; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; ten stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fay Heyen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sons; four sisters and one brother; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
