Carl K. Spears, 90, of Hillsboro, died on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Spears was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Fillmore, to Elbert and Gladys (Brown) Spears. He married Darline Arter on Oct. 19, 1952, in Carlinville. They were married for 66 years before her passing on Nov. 25, 2018.
He graduated from Coffeen High School and went on to obtain his associate’s degree. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
During his career, Mr. Spears was a banker and businessman for many years. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Lions Club, Rotary, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Pamela (Allen) Mehochko of Nokomis, Patricia Spears of Virginia, Wesley (Anna) Spears of Hillsboro and Jeffrey (Shelli) Spears of O’Fallon; grandchildren, Brianna, Matthew, Tina, Jeremy, Brendon, Sally, Jennifer, Miranda, Rebecca and Bri; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Janet (Roger) Blankenship of Nokomis.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Spears was preceded in death by his parents.
