Calhoun Pushes Past Short-Handed Redskins

Injuries and illness finally caught up with the Nokomis boys basketball team on Saturday, Feb. 13, with the always tough Calhoun Warriors also a factor in the Redskins 55-25 loss.

The host Warriors shut out the Redskins in the first quarter, taking a 12-0 lead after eight minutes. Nokomis would get on the board with seven points in the second quarter, but Calhoun would continue to add to their lead as Zach Quiller knocked down two threes and eight of the Warriors’ 17 points to give them a 29-7 lead.

Nokomis senior Ben Clavin would try to shoot the Redskins back into the contest as he hit three threes and scored 11 points in the third quarter for Nokomis. The Warriors only allowed two other points, off a field goal by Kendall Knodle, and again increased their lead to make it 45-20 going into the final frame.

Calhoun would finish off the win with a 10-5 quarter, with Clavin knocking down another three and Knodle chipping in two. The two seniors would account for 20 of Nokomis’ 25 points, with Clavin scoring a team-best 14. Nolan Himes (three) and Ryan Eisenbarth (two) picked up the other points.

Zach Quiller and Brody Caselton led the Warriors with 18 points each, while Ben Eberlin added 13.

The Redskins are scheduled to be on the road Tuesday, Feb. 16, with an MSM Conference match-up against Edinburg.
