Bryants Win At Coles County Dragway

It was a productive week in Charleston for the Litchfield Crew as several bracket racers ventured to Coles County Dragway for the track’s Double Nickle High Roller $5Ks.

The track was particularly kind to Phil Bryant, who raced in four finals on the weekend. Starting on Friday, Bryant took first in the gamblers race in the box class, then was second to his son Dustin in Saturday’s low roller race.

Bryant picked up his second win of the weekend by taking the top spot in the Quick 16, which paid out $2,000 to the winner.

In the big money $5,000 race, Bryant still had two entries left when it was down to four cars. With both cars on the same side of the bracket, Bryant knocked out one of his own entries, then fell to Rusty Hill in the final.

In addition to the Bryants, Rich Komor, Roger Burdell and Corey Wood also raced in the big money event at Coles County Dragway.

The week before, the Bryants raced at Central Illinois Dragway in Havana and had more success as Randy Weller, Phil’s son-in-law, took the top spot in the no box class on Friday, Aug. 20.

Midwest Jr. Super Series

On Aug. 27-29, the Midwest Junior Super Series was at Jeffers Motorsports Park in Sikeston, MO, and Litchfield Middle School’s Timothy Hearn was in attendance.

Hearn raced in the 8.90 index and 10-12 classes and went rounds in both despite carburetor issues on Sunday and an accident in the pits that occurred when another junior dragster collided with Hearn’s car while it was parked.

The next Midwest Junior Super Series event is on Oct. 1-3, at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, OH.
