Bremer Holds Contest To Hunt For Snowflakes


Bundle up for a new family friendly winter activity at the Bremer Wildlife Sanctuary in Hillsboro already underway with the submittal deadline on Feb. 15.  

Twelve painted snowflakes, along with an accompanying Bremer fun fact sign, have been hidden throughout the sanctuary along the established trails for hikers to find. Trail maps are located in the rural mailbox in front of the barn.  All trails will be used except the West Creek Trail and the extended loop of the Bluebird Trail.

You can submit your entry via Facebook, at the Bremer Sanctuary, Hickory Hills Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society facebook page or their webpage at  In addition, the paper entry form can be obtained inside the Little Free Library located in front of the Bremer barn, north of Hillsboro at 194 Bremer Lane.

All entries should include number of the fun fact signs, title on the signs and background color of each snowflake disk, and all participants’ contact information.

The final day to submit an entry is Feb. 15.  One winner will be drawn among all the entries to win a “Fun Evening at Bremer” which includes a trail hike, wagon ride and s’more roasting for the winner plus 15 friends or family members.

Bremer Sanctuary is an Illinois Audubon Society property and is located one half mile north of the Montgomery County courthouse.  Follow the signs to the parking area at the barn.

Bremer’s chapter, Hickory Hills, is an all-volunteer organization maintained by a small group of dedicated stewards.  The grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk for non-vehicular traffic on the marked trails.
