Witt’s Dane Bondurant came within a whisker of earning his third straight top 10 finish in the Illini Division of Phoenix Bass Fishing League on Saturday, Aug. 14, finishing 11th out of 93 competitors in the Strike King Co-Angler division.
Fishing on the Ohio River in Golconda, Bondurant snagged three fish weighing in at four pounds to take home $191 in prize money, upping his total winnings to $2,841 for the year.
Bondurant’s finish also upped his point total to 955 points, 42 more than James Jarvis of West Frankfort, who finished in a tie for 56th in Golconda.
In addition to Bondurant, Matthias Kircher of Sorento was 18th in the co-angler division, while Hobie Smith of Taylor Springs tied for 27th. Kircher caught two fish weighing three pounds, one ounce, while Smith caught two fish weighing two pounds nine ounces.
Bondurant was paired with Jay Clary III, who won the boater division. The Slaughters, KY angler landed five fish weighing 11 pounds, eight ounces to earn a $3,632 payday.
The next tournament in the Illini Division of the Phoenix Bass Fishing League is on Sept. 11-12 at Lake Shelbyville.
