A second half rally by the Litchfield Lady Panthers fell just short Thursday evening, Nov. 18, at Brownstown but it did not go unnoticed as Head Coach Rob Corso credited his varsity squad with playing hard and not giving up after a shaky first half that garnered just six points from the Lady Panther offense.
Litchfield outscored their hosts 21-16 in the second half but it was not enough as the Lady Bombers bested their guests 32-27.
Laney Baldrige’s seven first quarter points helped Brownstown build an early 9-2 lead that was boosted to 10 at the end of the second period as Baldrige buried a three in the second period and got a four-point helping hand from Jayna Ireland. Baldrige finished the game as the leading scorer with 10 points.
Trailing 16-6 at the half and 19-6 in the third quarter at the 5:40 mark, Litchfield junior Emma Walch buried the first of her three treys. Natelly Beal’s basket was answered by Carly Guinn who found an easy bucket inside.
Aubrey Wilhour sank a long two before Walch rang up another two treys and the Brownstown lead was 23-17 with 2:37 left in the quarter. Wilhour added the last score for Brownstown with a driving layup before Walch found Guinn under the basket for two and the Lady Bomber lead was six with eight minutes to play.
The Lady Panthers outscored Brownstown 8-7 in the fourth quarter with four points from Guinn and two each from Walch and Laura Boston, but the Brownstown offense did just enough. Wilhour found the bottom of the hoop two times and added a single free throw and Lexi Seabaugh had two free throws to help preserve Brownstown’s 32-27 win.
